Lori Bower, President

In 1998, as a 23-year-old County Extension Agent in Kansas, Lori Bower faced a daunting challenge: how to attract new 4-H members with a mere $500 budget. To make matters worse, a radio station bungled a donor's name in a spot that produced zero results. Frustrated but determined, Lori set out on a quest to understand what truly works in nonprofit communication. This journey led her to earn a master’s degree in strategic communication and launch a career with top advertising agencies in Chicago, where she worked on Fortune 300 brands.

Yet, even as she climbed the ladder and served on numerous nonprofit and community boards, Lori kept witnessing organizations struggle with the same challenges she faced.

Determined to help nonprofits overcome these obstacles, Lori created the Journey to Yes communications planning method and founded the Nonprofit Growth Institute. Since 2010, she has worked alongside community foundations and nonprofits across the country to simplify their messaging and amplify their impact.

"Nonprofit leaders don't have time to stress about communications and marketing—they have important work to do. Our goal is to alleviate the burden through planning and resources, so they can create more impact with less effort."
